City League Rugby Results – Aravis Investment XV 43- Ernst & Young – 5
A scintillating, ruthless performance resulted in a stunning victory and a big scalp for the Aravis Investment XV defeating the accountants by 43 points to 5. Champagne, barbarian rugby was the order of the day in attack and the defence solid and unyielding by all.
The match saw solid try scoring debuts from Jonny Richards of Partners Capital, Stefan Cooksammy of Henderson Rowe and Tom Crick of Altus Investment Management. Richards relentlessly used his winger’s pace throughout the game to burn EY’s wide men and his try was a 40-meter gallop of sheer class. However, the Man of the Match award must go to Stefan Cooksammy for what was simply an imperious display of skills, pace and enormous defence.
It was also brilliant and heartening to see the return of Aravis Investment XV stalwarts; Balenkosi Dungeni of Aviva investors with his bulloching running, Jamie Irvine of Aberdeen Standard majestically pulling the strings at fly half, Cosmo Elms of Legal & General playmaking as always in the centres, Ben Palairet of Brooks Macdonald causing mayhem at every lineout and James Floyd of Brook Green Capital who let’s just say, must have taken his pre-season very seriously. Floyd’s numerous carries and line breaks were a thing of beauty and suggest he must have spent a considerable amount of time in a gymnasium over the summer.
Andrew Doctor of Stamford Associates can’t stop scoring and added two more to his seasons tally as well as committing himself to a number of bone crunching tackles. Alexander Renwick of Aravis Partners and Jamie Irvine also crossed the whitewash to complete the rout.
Next game is against Goldman Sachs on Wednesday, November 15th. The stage is now set from an almighty encounter. Supporters welcome and encouraged.
