Match Report - Aravis 37 - Goldman Sachs 34

Victory again for the Aravis Investment XV & one almighty scalp in what was a fiery and ferocious encounter. In reality, the win felt slightly hollow as Goldman’s were penalised 12 points at kick off for failing to field a front row, leading to the menace of uncontested scrums.

Nonetheless special mentions must go to debutant full back Dom Heathcote-Rey for what was a sublime all round display and to Charlie Baillie of Aberdeen Standard who was a colossus in the loose, carrying and tackling himself to standstill. Jamie Cuthbert also of Aberdeen Standard was a menace on the wing and consistently made yards with his determined running. Although clearly disappointed by the lack of scrummaging Stephan Breban of Dean Wetton was a perpetual work horse in the tight as was newbie Owen Davies of Russell Investments. Thanks must also go to James Floyd of Brook Green for stepping up and captaining the team. As well as for his best efforts to simultaneously sooth, amuse and irritate the referee.

This was a strong way to finish the calendar year and hold tight for the official match photos. Everyone is pumped for the new year and excited to welcome Aravis Partners’ own powerhouse centre James Dickinson back into the fold after his unfortunate shoulder dislocation last season. Expect soft hands, twinkle toes and surprising agility for a man of his size, strength and power. Kit Sanford, also of Aravis Partners is equally excited to be returning as water boy / team mascot.

On a final note – friends, fans and family of the Aravis Investment XV are all invited to the end of year rugby social which will be held on the evening of Thursday, November 30th at the Footman, 5 Charles St, in Mayfair.
